“Real-time 3D scans of internal organs using a chest band; Secure mobile authentication performable by every mobile phone” - these are among the innovative solutions that claimed the top accolades at the World Summit Awards (WSA) 2020, a renowned global awards system that recognises exemplary innovations with high social impact and that advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The start-ups behind these innovations, CoronAI and IPification, are both Cyberport community members. They were chosen from close to 350 entrants from more than 180 countries and are the only companies from Hong Kong winning the contest.

CoronAI is a medical device developer and a current grantee from Cyberport Creative Micro Fund. The start-up is developing a cost-effective, user-friendly technology that produces real-time 3D scans of internal organs and that enables patients to take a primary test without the physical presence of medical professionals. IPification, a Cyberport tenant, provides a mobile authentication solution. Its patented mobile identity verification system enables users to perform secure, password-less mobile user authentication, phone number verification, and fraud prevention using any mobile phone. The solution has already been deployed in 11 markets to bolster cybersecurity. The two innovations are awarded in “Health & Well-Being” and “Business & Commerce” category respectively.

Eric Chan, Chief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport, said, "We are delighted to witness two outstanding Cyberport community members stand out as the top five solutions in their respective categories among the nominees and shine on the international stage. Apart from the commemoration of their devotion, the award recognised their work and contribution to the well-being of the society. Cyberport will continue to cultivate digital tech talent, groom start-ups and foster a vibrant and diverse I&T ecosystem.  More importantly, we will help maximise the positive impact brought by digital technology and start-ups innovation, contributing to the benefits of the society at large under the new normal of digital transformation.”

The annual WSA is modelled upon the United Nation’s World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). It offers eight categories for the contest, and each category selects five of the most socially impactful solutions from around the world.
