Smart disinfection robot maintains community hygiene and reduce the spread of viruses

Maintaining environmental hygiene can effectively minimise the spread of the virus in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Avalon SteriTech provides a full suite of consultant services and solutions in cleaning and disinfections. “MoonStar”, the company’s flagship disinfection robot that was co-developed with MTR, focuses on regular disinfection for mass transportation sector. “MoonStar” has been regularly deployed to disinfect the Hong Kong metro system and aircraft fleet to combat the ongoing pandemic. Equipped with dual nozzle system, “MoonStar” generates atomized disinfectant for maximum zone and surface coverage, while its compact design also allows high manoeuvrability in the train and aircraft compartments.

Developed under the joint venture between Avalon SteriTech and SoftBank Robotics, “Whiz Gambit” is the first disinfection robot to achieve Performance Mark by SGS Hong Kong. The device, which has been proven to be effective in eliminating over 99% of micro bacteria on a surface, exemplifies how the concept of cobots, or collaborative robots, can be applied to the public health and commercial sector.

Apart from robotics solutions, Avalon SteriTech has been working with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to develop textile and material used for personal protective equipment, including clothing, gloves, and facemasks to improve health protection for hospital and other frontline staff. A highlight of this collaboration is a project supported by the Hong Kong government’s Public Sector Trial Scheme, which sees the team provide washable antimicrobial fabric products to hospitals and elderly houses in a research and development trial.
