Cyberport recently announced the third-intake results of its Esports Industry Facilitation Scheme (EIFS) and Esports Internship Scheme (EIS).

Both initiatives, set up by Cyberport to bolster Hong Kong’s esports ecosystem, enrich the talent pool, and foster industry growth, saw a spike in applications and the number of projects approved.

The EIFS admitted 52 projects (out of 98 applications), including 43 events, 8 esports courses, and 1 overseas support programme, while the EIS approved 38 (out of 45 applications).

Among the events supported by EIFS are four signature regional and global events. One of them is a Cantonese viewing show of the highly anticipated GCS 2020 Summer Finals in Taiwan. HKA, one of Hong Kong’s leading esports teams, has earned a top spot in the GCS 2020 Summer Season and will battle Taiwan’s AOV (Arena of Valor) overlords for the championship at the Finals. The viewing show will feature Hong Kong’s very own casters commentating on the Taiwanese event, which will be streamed live at the brand-new MCL Cyberport Cinema.

Other signature events include the MONOPOLY 85th Anniversary Hong Kong Tournament; the Arena of Valor 5G – Multi-Hundred Gamers E-Sports Tournament, which will once again see Cyberport incubatee Advokate providing blockchain technical and marketing support; and the Hong Kong Selection Qualifiers of International Esports Federation’s revered 12th Esports World Championship, organised by Esports Association Hong Kong and co-organised by Cyberport.

For talent cultivation, the EIS will provide cash subsidies for the 38 approved internship placements. The intern positions will cover a range of job natures, including talent management, esports event management, and full-stack development.

Applications for the batch 4 intake will soon commence. For further details about the schemes and the application, please visit the schemes’ website.
