With the aim of encouraging the application of digital technology to the arts and culture sector, Cyberport has joined forces with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to organise “Arts x Tech Meetup@Cyberport” recently.

This event has showcased how the combination of digital technology and artistic creation can offer unprecedented experiences for audiences. Eleven Cyberport community companies introduced their digital solutions and explored collaboration opportunities with some 300 members from the local arts and culture sector.

At the opening ceremony, Caspar Tsui, Secretary for Home Affairs, honoured the event with his presence, exchanging ideas with representatives of the arts and culture sector and the innovation and technology sector.

“I am delighted to see Cyberport dedicating resources to supporting the development of Art Tech and providing platforms to showcase its achievements. Cyberport also connects the innovation and technology sector with the arts sector for collaboration in Art Tech,” said the Secretary for Home Affairs, Caspar Tsui.

 “Digital technologies provide artists with new palettes and materials, enabling them to express their ideas in ways never seen before. They can also enjoy enhanced interaction with audiences, which in turn will ignite their drive to create new experiences. Digital technologies are also effective in providing new circulation channels for the art community, allowing artworks to become more accessible. This not only supports further penetration of the arts in the public sphere, but also provides digital arts trading methods and facilitates the development of the arts, culture and creative industries,” said Peter Yan, Chief Executive Officer of Cyberport.

In addition, Cyberport has organised "Tech x Arts - Beyond Imagination" digital art exhibition with community start-ups, featuring an exhibition of illustrations and photographs, tokenised by Non-Fungible Token (NFT) technology, from local post-90s illustrator Vivian Ho and several local photographers, as well as painted speakers that combine artwork with sound technology.

Cyberport is also hosting the “Art x Tech - Master Series” livestreamed sharing sessions with NEXXCREATE, where artists from different media share arts technologies with Cyberport’s start-ups on three consecutive Thursday evenings, beginning on 9 September. During the first sharing session, musician Hanjin Tan shared his experience of selling music NFTs. Live and Review modes are available on Cyberport’s Facebook page and NEXXCREATE’s page
