Cyberport launched an esports channel on YouTube during Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum 2020 to broadcast local and international esports events. The goals are to meet the growing appetite for esports contents, level up the esports ecosystem, and cultivate a fan base for local players, casters, developers, and creators.

Earlier in February, the channel live-streamed two highly anticipated tournaments: the Grand Final games of the Asia Mobile Esports Tournament 2021 and Hong Kong’s second Student eSports Cup, both were projects funded by the Esports Industry Facilitation Scheme.

The Asia Mobile Esports Tournament 2021 (AME) featured two widely popular titles, Clash Royale and Brawl Stars, the banner titles of Finnish-based mobile game developer Supercell. Since January, more than 1,000 players from around the world had gone through the qualifiers and regional competitions before sending their best to the final face-off.

Held over a weekend, the Grand Final was played on LeaguePass, the one-stop esports platform of Cyberport incubatee Loot, with live casting by gaming KOLs and live chats among fans. After some intense battling, Japanese pro player Pandora and Malaysia’s Ladder Warriors claimed the thrones of Clash Royale and Brawl Stars respectively and received cash prizes worth US$10,000. Including the Esports Channel, the AME was streamed by 13 streamers in seven languages worldwide, racking up 99,300 views for the Grand Final games alone.

Right before the AME, the second Student eSports Cup was also staged. Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Student Esports Association, Razer, and Cyberport, this year’s event attracted double the participants of last year. More than 800 students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions signed up for three popular titles: The League of Legends drew 62 teams, Teamfight Tactics featured 93 players, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege pulled 60 teams. After three days of competitions playing one title a day, the winning teams laid claim to cash and prizes worth HK$60,000.

More esports events will be streamed on the Cyberport Esports channel, be sure to subscribe today to relive the matches and catch the upcoming ones!
