After a hiatus year of the pandemic, the Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) returns for its sixth run but in a new virtual format, drawing a record-high cohort of 73 students from 7 local universities.

The CUPPers will go through a rich and intensive structured programme including series of training and pre-camp nurturing followed by a bootcamp, where participants will then refine their FinTech business proposals, pitch on the Presentation Day (6 February), and vie for the opportunity to bag HK$100,000 worth of Cyberport Creative Micro Fund grant (for top 10 teams) to bring their FinTech innovations forward. To foster greater intra-school exchange, CUPP 2021 is also allowing students to form teams across universities.

Peter Yan, CEO of Cyberport, said, “As Cyberport’s flagship FinTech-focused programme under the Cyberport Academy, CUPP’s mission is to nurture young FinTech talents while unearthing innovative ideas.  We are pleased to see a record high number of students admitted to this year’s CUPP and their business proposals have been excellent. It reflects that the FinTech industry is flourishing, and is encouraging more young minds to engage in its development. With the accelerating digital transformation of society and the surging demand for FinTech talents, it is of utmost importance for Cyberport to continue equipping youngsters with digital technology skills and enriching Hong Kong’s I&T talent pool.”

In this edition, Cyberport partners with the renowned IESE Business School of the University of Navarra in Spain to conduct the nine-day virtual bootcamp. The School has been ranked the world’s first for Executive Education for six consecutive years.  The CUPPers in 20 teams will receive close to 60 hours of best-in-class trainings and mentoring support from worldwide industry experts and learn how to commercialise their ideas in FinTech.  They will gain first-hand insights on the global FinTech start-up ecosystem, practical advice and build networks.
