In addition to the HKICT Awards, Cyberport’s FinTech and Smart Living start-ups reaped further recognition and significant cash prizes from the Blue Innovation Challenge 2020 and the Asia’s Best E-Tailing Awards 2020.

At the Blue Innovation Challenge, organised by Blue Insurance Limited and the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node (“MIT Node”) to identify transformative FinTech start-ups and solutions, three start-ups from the Cyberport community bested 48 contenders to claim the top three awards and walked away with cash prizes totalling HK$600,000.

The three start-ups, Magnum Research Limited (Aqumon), CoverGo Limited, and MediConCen Limited, were awarded the Best Solution Award, Best of Tech Award, and Innovation Award, respectively. In addition to cash prizes, they will be given the opportunity to pilot their business ideas and solutions at Blue, the leading digital insurer, and enjoy free access to the MIT Node to fast-track their development.

Charleston Sin, Executive Director of MIT Node, remarked that the Challenge has helped identify start-up talent and allowed them to put innovative concepts into practice, “ultimately fostering the development of the financial industry in Hong Kong and beyond.” Meanwhile, Charles Hung, CEO and Executive Director of Blue, was hopeful that the winning solutions will bring new business ideas to the financial market.

Separately, with COVID-19 upending traditional retail industries, shifting consumption behaviours, and accelerating digital transformation, Smart Living and e-tailing solutions are increasingly being developed and adopted as retailers of all stripes forge new ways forward in the new normal.

For this reason, this year’s Asia’s Best E-Tailing Awards, in its third edition, sought not only to celebrate the accomplishments of e-tailing merchants, specialists, and service providers, but to also promote the adoption of such technologies by the broader industry.

Four start-ups from the Cyberport community were recognised for Excellence in Innovation - Starling Labs, Qupital, E-Buy Global, and Spread-it claimed the Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Merit awards, respectively, for their exemplary e-commerce, trade finance, and digital marketing solutions.
