At the recent Hong Kong ICT Awards 2020, members of the Cyberport community chalked up a total of 23 awards across all eight categories. It was the most awards won by Cyberport community start-ups at this illustrious annual event steered by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer and organised by the industry’s leading associations and professional bodies.

The awards represented industry plaudits for innovative excellence, and they were a demonstration of the strength, diversity, and depth of Cyberport’s three major application clusters as start-ups specialising in various verticals across Digital Entertainment, Smart Living, and FinTech claimed major awards.

As cases in point, the multidisciplinary game developer, 3MindWave, clinched the Digital Entertainment Grand Award and Gold Award (Entertainment and eSports Software) for outstanding gaming design, and the barrier-free indoor navigation platform provider, Maphive Technology, nabbed the Smart Mobility Grand Award and Gold Award (Smart Tourism) for enhancing users’ travel experience and supporting barrier-free mobility.

Various awards were also conferred to Digital Entertainment start-ups engaging in game development (XR Dom, Element Cell Game, Original Workshop, and Simplist) and 3D animation (Nikopicto), as well as to Smart Living start-ups specialising in EV charging (oneCHARGE), robotic gloves for rehabilitation (Zunosaki), and electronic medical record systems (Acesobee).

Adding to the accolades, start-ups from Hong Kong’s largest FinTech community at Cyberport again snatched a string of awards. Their robo-advisory (AQUMON), transaction data tracking (gini), virtual investment assistant (iDDY), RegTech (Wizpresso), and virtual insurance (OneDegree) solutions were awarded for advancing innovation in the financial sector and for meeting new consumption behaviours and demands with technology.

Eric Chan, Cyberport’s Chief Public Mission Officer, was delighted about the Cyberport community’s historic wins: “We are glad to see Cyberport’s start-ups in our three key clusters shine their own light. Cyberport will continue to cultivate digital tech talent, groom start-ups, and build a more mature I&T ecosystem for Hong Kong. We hope that the market recognition will encourage start-ups to expand their businesses to more markets and further drive the development of Hong Kong’s I&T industry.”

Maphive Technology, with its barrier-free indoor navigation platform, won the “Smart Mobility Grand Award” and the Gold Award in the “Smart Mobility (Smart Tourism)” stream. Co-founder of Maphive Technologyy, John Chuen-yu Chan (Left), received the award from the Secretary for Innovation and Technology Alfred Sit (Right).
